Monday, 4 December 2017

I still can't believe that it is December.  It is transfer week and the hustle and bustle in the office making sure that everyone has tickets to travel and enough beds to sleep and blankets to keep warm.  Sister Poulson, a sister missionary from the Visitors Centre is being transferred with her companion.   Sister Poulson is going to a threesome.  I just got noticed today that she will be sleeping on the floor on a mattress but the flat doesn't have bedding for a third person.  She will take bedding with her and leave some of her clothes.  Elder Wallace and I will drop her some of her things off on Thursday.  We have had a flat vacant and new missionaries are going there tomorrow but when the senior couple went to the flat it smelled and the bedding was not in good condition.  They called and said that the elders needed all new bedding.  I ordered it but it won't be ready till Friday from Argos.  The senior missionaries will take of the elders till Friday.  Thank goodness for senior missionaries.  We need them so badly.  Well - the rest is office work that kept us busy all day.  We did get a chance to see the flat of the two VC missionaries that are leaving.  We are closing and doing a white wash of the flat which means they have to deep clean it and make it ready to give back to the landlords.  I am so happy that the sister missionaries will do this.  We will move furniture next week.

We attend a FHE with the YSA in Epson Ward.  We had a wonderful time.  I got to introduced and visited Aaron.  He is now out of YSA but is included with our group but come to enjoy the group.  He is raises owls and sells them.  He showed me about 8 different types of birds that he raises.  Very interesting guy.  We have young marrieds coming to YSA also and one of the bishopric and his wife come.  John and Ann Thurlow hosted the FHE.  (Pictures)

John and Ann Thurlow - they have a beautiful home.

I woke at 5 am and read Mosiah 9-15.  I am teaching a lesson for Institute on Wednesday night on Abinadi.  Elder Wallace and I started rolling out and cooking sugar cookies at 6 am.  The cookies were for the dinner the mission office puts on for new missionaries and transfers.  We feed over 40 missionaries and staff tonight.  Sister Harkness and Sister DeArden were in charge of dinner.  Sister DeArden got really sick and went to the doctors last night.  She put the sugar cookies together and I brought home the dough and rest of the makings for frosting.  She needed help and I was so glad she asked me. We made 5 dozen circles, trees, and star cookies and frosted them all by 8 am.  We made it to the office at 8:40 am.  Miracles to happen!

I cannot explain transfer days.  The office has missionaries coming and going most the day.  Work is almost non-existent.  The two office sisters, Elder Wallace and I are in the front office and get to meet and visit with all the new missionaries and those going home.  My favorite thing is getting a hug from the sister missionaries.  I spent the better part of the day preparing for the dinner for the missionaries and help cleaning up.  Glad to be home.  Cleaned up the kitchen while watching the Christmas movie "Miracle on 34th Street".  Time to study Institute lesson and relax.

  1. Transfer days were always exciting. New missionaries would show up and I would take their pictures with the mission president in front of a fountain with three flags: French, Swiss, and Luxembourg. The older missionaries would come to the mission home to pick up their new companions and find out where they were going. And you are right--not a lot of work got done in the office!
