MTC Day 5

Friday, September 8, 2017

Today is the last week of classes of Preach My Gospel.  We have had a wonderful experiences feeling the sweet spirit and learning ways to teach and share the gospel.  We are excited to use our new skills.  Sister Murdock, an artist, brought a picture for each one of us.  I received the picture "The Eyes of the Shepherd".  She promised to send me the story behind the picture.  She said if you look at the shepherd eyes, they will follow you wherever you go.

Classes with our District started at 8 am.  Sister Whitten taught us that "don't just invite people to church" invite them to "come to Christ" by attending church.  All our lessons or talks focus on the Savior, Jesus Christ. Each couple prepared a lesson to teach in 5 minutes and gave it to the couple next to them and vise versa.  We taught Elder and Sister Murdock who are going to Mexico City to work in the mission office. We were to role play that we were teaching a lady that was a divorced woman with 2 sons and one of the sons happened to be there for the lesson.  She was an inactive sister that had been to the temple.  It was very difficult for me.  My mind went blank and I couldn't concentrate on what was happening.  I realized that this might be an experience I will have on the mission.  Thank goodness for Clark.  He pulled us through.

The last part of the class was preparing a lesson in 10 minutes and actually giving the lesson to a lay person. We had 15 minutes to met with Sister Robison and get to know her and her situation.  She let us into her life and told us some of her struggles and sorrows besides what makes her happy and keeps here busy.  Of course, I wanted to take her home and take care of her.  Sister Robison was a petite older woman that was on a fixed income having to rent a room because she didn't make enough money to live anywhere else.  She worked all her life in a dry cleaning and laundry shop.  She only received a small amount of a pay check each week because the business provided her with room and board.  What came as a shock was when she took out Social Security and realized that her SS was calculated on what she made in salary.  She has some depression and not much contact with a daughter in the area.  We then prepared a 20 minute lesson and taught her a lesson on Faith and Hope.  Our prayers go with this sweet sister.  Sister Robison comes every Friday to the MTC to be interviewed and taught.  She works on genealogy and attends the Provo Temple.  We went back and evaluated our our lesson and asked these questions:
  • What evidence was there that the spirit was present?
  • How id you fulfill your purpose today?
  • Did you extend a commitment or invitation?
  • What was one thing you would like to change/do better tomorrow?
These are wonderful questions we asked ourselves and talked about.  We said our good byes and took pictures and exchanged emails. Brother and Sister Jex was leaving that afternoon.

This is our District and our afternoon teacher.  Starting on the left is Elder and Sister Jex, Elder and Sister Fitt, Elder and sister Wallace, Elder and Sister Murdock and Brother McCleary.  This picture was taken on Thursday.  It was the last day with Brother McCleary.

The District with Sister Witten.  She was our morning teacher.

This is just an overview of what we have learned the past week at the MTC.  This was our last meeting  of the senior missionaries.  Many were going to their assigned areas.  We said good bye to the Hicks, Hendricks, and Jexs.  We had a Brother and Sister Hawkes.  They have been telling of their experiences on their missions and doing a slide presentation.  It was there last presentation they will give at the MTC.  The presentation expanded our vision of what we can do and pray for inspiration to help in our service as missionaries.

Picture taken at the new MTC.  I am so blest to have Clark as my mission companion.  England will be pure joy with him there.  Nothing was happening at the MTC on Saturday so we went to Layton and stayed the night with Jeff, Nanette, and Roman.  We played Five Crowns and enjoyed learning a new game thanks to Mary Kaye Doyle and did laundry.  I do love putting on clean clothes.
