Wednesday, 28 November 2018

We woke early and prepared ourselves for the office and left for work at 7:30 am.  We loaded the van with sheets, dresser, and a long list that Christensens need for their new flat.  We took off early to IKEA to purchase pots & pans, coat rack, and a list of things for the Christensens.  Opening a new flat takes a lot of work.  We were hoping to go to the Christensens after IKEA but they weren't home.

Sister missionaries used our flat to do laundry, study, shower and drink hot chocolate again.  I am so glad that we can help them.

We got a call from the Christensen that they would be back in Peckham within the hour.  We hurried out of the office and drove the 6 miles which took us an hour to arrive in Peckham.  The Christensens had two sister missionaries put sticky notes and hearts on their door.  I thought that it was a sweet jester to how much the Christensens are loved.  I have not heard of an induction stove top till the Christensens moved into their new flat and none of the pans from the storage would work.   We were able to buy the induction pans at IKEA.

We got home just as the four new cars arrived for the mission.  I was so glad that Elder Wallace was back in time to charge of the cars.  We also had Pamela from Germany come and help Elder Ernstom with the finances.  She found out that we have been using the wrong account number.  A lot of our security deposits and council tax refunds have been going to Germany and not our account.  What a big relief.  This would not have been discovered if Pamela hadn't come to London.  The Ernstoms took Pamela and us to Fouberts for dinner.  We were going to go to another restaurant but we couldn't book the a place until 7 pm and we didn't want to wait that long.

Elder Wallace and Elder Bullock left at 7:30 am each drove a car to the London Temple and left one are in the parking.

The Visitor Center sister missionaries used flat to shower because of plumbing going on in their flat.   Sister Allred over the YSA in Hyde Park did a belated Thanksgiving dinner and used our oven to help prepare Thanksgiving dinner for YSA.  I feel at times we are a full service missionaries and give all we have.

Spent the better part of the day in the office, working on letters and Christmas packages, and putting out fires.  Pamela is trying to work with us.  She is patient and understanding of our weaknesses.

This afternoon the Giving Machine for "Lighting the World" was up and working and training went on for Elder Wallace and many of the missionaries.  I went to dinner with the Ernstroms and Pamela at Gourmet Burgers and had a shake and hamburger while Elder Wallace stayed for training on the vending machines.  He was the first to have donation and buy a fish for £1.

Elder Wallace met us at Ernstroms and we taught Pamela how to play five Crowns.

We returned to the church to help set up tables for the ribbon cutting of the "Light the World" machines.  I carried over the ironing board and iron from the flat to iron out the table clothes.  Sister Fawson had done most the work and I helped a little with the ironing.

At 9:30 am Elder Wallace, Ernstroms, Sister Checketts, and departing missionaries drove off in two vans to have lunch at the temple, attend the temple and dinner in the accommodations.  Elder and Sister Bullock drove a new car to the temple  and returned in one of two vans.

Today was the big kickoff for the Giving Machines.  I helped the Dransfields with the Open House to cut the ribbon for the "Giving Machines".  I was in charge of the food and some of the decorations.  I was able to make a bow for the machines.  I spent the morning setting up, cooking food, making sure the missionaries trays were full.  I took a few minutes away for the program.  The ceremony went well with a short program with Elder Dransfield introducing the program.  Three different people talked and Savannah Stevenson, a member of the church who has played Galinda in Wicked and was Mary in the churches videos sang two Christmas songs.  I had never heard the songs before but the first one touched me to the very core of my soul.  I had to hold back tears from the overwhelming feeling in my heart. I felt privileged to be a part of this special occasion. I spent from 1 pm in the office because all three of the office staff were at the temple. I returned to the office with Elder Fawson pacing and a desk full mail and boxes.  I worked in the office until 7:30 pm when everyone returned from their trip to the London Temple.

Exciting time for a reminder to Give at Christmas.
